How to SORN if on direct debit tax?

The 604s tax runs out in a few days and I won't have time to get it through MOT by them.

According to the SORN website I need the "16 digit reference number from your V11 reminder".

Do they still send a reminder if the car is on direct debit automatic tax renewal?

I don't remember seeing a V11 though it's possible I missed it.

You can indeed do it "mid-term" with your V5 logbook number.   Not sure how the refund works with DD - presume they just stop taking the next payments....

Yeah, click on "I haven't got a V11" then choose the "I have sorned or taxed this vehicle before, it's in my name honest guv" option.

The V5 is not in the folder where it is supposed to be  :-(

I have a photocopy of the V5 that the previous owner had, but I think that they change the "document number" when they issue them to a new owner so that won't work.

I guess I have to spend the evening searching the 2 foot high pile of papers on my desk and/or search the car by torchlight.  Such fun

Yes, It just stops being drawn. I did get an itchy trigger finger once and after sorning it, cancelled the direct debit very shortly after with my online banking. Ended up with an e mail from DVLA basically finger wagging but all was well in the end.

My experience with the current system has been that it works well.

I found when I sorned 2 cars last month on the last day of the month they did still take the payment on the 1st as usual, but refunded it again about 2 weeks later.
