MOT Fail - Does it cancel out previous pass.

II decide to MOT car on September 25th. Car fails MOT. Car now does not have a valid MOT and needs to have a valid MOT put on it before I can drive it again. Previous MOT is irrelevant.

But you can't change history. It was tested on the 1st Jan, and you can go for a maximum of a year before needing another test. The test in September has told you that there are things that need attention, but you still have a year's pass from Jan.

Oddly, this is true if it fails, but if it passed on 25th september it would then be tested until 24th sept the following year. Wait until december 2nd and you would preserve the Jan 1st renewal date.

Also, if it failed and it wasn't a serious roadworthiness issue or something you could fix on the spot (like a chipped windscreen, perhaps) then you've got until january to get gavin from autoglass to sort it out and you can drive it no problem.

They would be as well to pull the plug on the DVLA (or whatever they are called now) site. I have never once found a clear answer on there.

Or if you fail an MOT on Saturday morning and fix the fault on Saturday afternoon. Are you supposed to keep the car off the road until the test station opens on Monday?

No, use a station that's open on a Sunday. Here's an old cert of mine issued on a Sunday morning.
