406 collection fred

Having entered the raffle for the 405 which I was putting off due to lack of storage space I did the only decent thing and agreed to buy the 406 being offered by Mike D. The train ticket is booked for tomorrow. I need to arrange one day insurance but the quotes I've had back say 'minimum car value £1000' which is a bit short of what I'm actually buying it for. Should I be concerned about this as not worth paying £34 for insurance that won't cover me?

I've sorted it now thanks. Mike D still has it insured so I can cover it with my other policy. Top bloke!

I will post my collection on here tomorrow...

Sat at Leicester Station, it's cold, and i'm waiting for a train to Grimsby via Sheffield to collect a car I've never seen before and don't really need, with some issues, from a man I've never met. How my life has changed since I happened upon the Autoshite community..

I'm doing this in my phone so photos may arrive at random times.

I don't travel on the train that often so I was looking forward to it. I spent a long time queuing to get on the wrong carriage which meant I was the last to arrive in the correct one. No seats left. Message over the tannoy to say they have not downloaded the reservations so sit anywhere. There is one space left. Well half a space as the largish bloke next to me seems to have a hip problem meaning his right leg is pressed firmly against my calf. His elbows are also a bit pointy. I think he's been working away, doing sweaty work, without ready access to any washing facilities.

Saturday daytime during half term collection?

Rookie mistake.

The pro's go midweek during school/work hours to avoid PEOPLE.

Best of luck!

I'm not doing this very well. Arrived at Sheffield 1 minute after train to Grimsby was due to leave. Cue mad dash to try and find platform. Managed to jump on just before it left. No seats left so have to stand. I should have run through this with you Wilson*2 before I left! At least I seem to have phone reception now.

Some train companies offer compensation if you haven't been able to get your reserved seat. Just looked and East midlands trains charter says a 25% refund of that part of the journey (as a rail voucher). So might be worth writing in (it does say get your ticket endorsed by the conductor but this should be ok if their system is at fault, just say you didn't see the conductor as it was so busy).

Picked this car up today from Mike D.  Recommended +++++  I had a very pleasant drive back to Leicester and my £10 of diesel only seemed to be half used in 90 miles so that's promising.  There's a few things to sort for the MOT but they were all pointed out by Mike in his initial post.  I've not had a 406 before and it feels pretty well made.  Being the GLX i was very impressed with the powered seats in the front which both work well.  The seats themselves are very comfy and the headrests feel like pillows.  It also has the drop down armrests for extra comfort on the motorway.  Excellent stereo with a cd changer in the boot so will check if that works.  The engine pulls well and although no fireball i didn't find it slow and it's smooooth.  Gearchange, clutch and suspension all fine with a slight knocking which is hopefully a drop link.  The tyres will need sorting soon as it's easy to spin them in the wet and i managed to get the abs kicking in a bit too easily.  Overall i'm very happy and hope that with a few hundred quid i can get it through the MOT without too much bother... fingers crossed.

To do:

Tyres x2 and tracking

Suspension clunk

Info display - can't read properly as some pixels gone so will look for a replacement

Check why brake warning light comes on when brakes pressed, loose wire or new pads?

Fiddle with connectors under seat to see if i can get airbag light to go out

MOT

It will mean i now have to sell my Alfa which is the bit i don't like.  I'm much better at buying cars than selling them!
