Go faster bits

I have a strange desire to strap unsuitable turbos onto XUDs. For no reason other than it is super cheap and most amusing.

This one was robbed from a Mercedes C220 CDI in the boneyard.

Like I said, done cheap, B&Q intercooler pipes. They hold 24PSI happily.

The last final glorious hours of my Ka involved amateur 'tuning'. Well, drilling out the airbox. Then deciding that wasn't enough, so removing it altogether. Didn't make much difference, but it sounded better. Hooning it around a farmyard loosened the exhaust, so that got chopped out, which made it worse. Turns out there's actual science to loud exhausts. Then some bright spark decided to clamp the fuel injection return pipe. Which just made it really smoky.

Maybe some day I'll try just putting a bigger engine in something. Or just buying something that was fast in the first place.

I took the hubcaps off my avenger to make the car lighter and therefore faster.  Stored the hubcaps in the boot so I wouldn't lose them.

We should talk.

What model was that CDI turbo?

Looks like it mated up to the XUD manifold just perfectly

I have a tendency to fit OTT tyres to the cars I buy. Fitted some Toyo R888s to my 306 TD and slightly bent a track rod end hooning like a twat.

Fitted Goodyear Eagle GSD 3 F1s to the C4 which replaced it and ended up hooning like a twat and bending a track rod end.

Amazon is lowered by 25 mm and has poly bushes in the front suspension but not the back. HOON.

Reduction in unsprung weight - you are suspension guru !

It was a Gt2052s.

It is welded to the manifold with a stick welder.

Original oil lines fit. Then welded on a bit of plate with a hole to attach the original exhaust elbow on.

It's eaten one set of driveshafts already but whoever had it before me Lowered it too much so that doesn't help.

Hillman Imp estate, my first car and I thought this lot would be a good idea - 915cc block from VW Derrington, cast manifold to take 2 DCOE 40s from the same place, Piper 1RY camshaft, Imp Sport dizzy and Lumenition (I think), big valves, big exhaust etc.

End result - loads of money spent on jets & tubes at Ripspeed to get the carbs sorted, thirsty, noisy and not as nice as the standard engine until the revs built up a lot...

Removing the thick rubber rings from the coil springs and a set of Spax dampers made a huge difference though, deffo worth while.

Not sure if it's a 'go-faster' bit per sé but I fitted a full stainless to my Legacy (mostly as it was half the price of the standard exhaust system). Might have added...something... to it but then it was hardly noticeable, underneath the paranoia of something else expensive going pop on the car and bringing it to a grinding halt.

The Bini Cooper I had for a bit had stupid big rimz on it, which made the car horrible and crashy to drive. Thankfully I didn't waste money on them though, as they were on the car when I bought it. More fool me..

The only person that I've seen mod a car with lots of go-faster bits and do it successfully has been doing it to the same car (Evo VI) for over 10 years (he still keeps it as his daily). Needless to say, he has deep pockets, so if something goes awry with a mod, he can fork out and put it right.

I used to tune some of my minis back in the day. The most successful was a mini van I had. Ripped out the MG Metro engine that had melted 2 pistons. Replaced it with a 998cc engine I got for free. Fitted the MG exhaust and inlet manifold. I cleaned up the casting marks on the inlet but didn't polish it as it apparently helps atomisation. Drilled the air box and fitted a K&N,also fitted the electronic dizzy from the MG. Also put a quick shift kit on. It showed a clean pair of heals to my Rover Cooper and my mates RSP Cooper. I also fitted every type of smiths gauge to the dash,it was quite a weapon on the road.

The next was a 1275 GT that the previous owner had fitted an MG metro challenge engine in it when the original blew up. The thing was he was kicked out of the series because his engine was very tuned. I didn't know the full spec but needless to say it was very quick. I fitted roller rockers to that when I did the head gasket, and it was unbelievably revy after that.
