Finance repo's

BIG difference with houses is that they don't depreciate like cars. I also could do without a car if I got really skint, but the wife and kids wouldn't much care for life on a park bench!

My only point is a simple one. If you can afford £200 a month car payments, you can afford to put away £200 a month. Money in the bank for all those expenses you mentioned. Bit like a payday loan except you are lending it to yourself.

In almost 200 posts all that we have learned is that no matter what you believe you can always conjure up enough figures to prove your point without any shadow of doubt. We have finally become Pistonheads for Poor People :(

Each to their own, for the most part of it I don't have the time/skill to fix old chod on the drive, hence my herald not having anything done to it in 9 months!  and one in the garage that hasn't seen daylight for 5 yearsI now I only work 1 mile from home, I could walk, wife only works 5 miles from home hence the Leaf has done less than 2k in 4 months ( good job as the pcp deal is only for 6k a year) but this works for us and that's the important thing.

My CRV is paid for and owned by me. I fancy a change but don't want to take out any more debt for a car be it loan, or hp etc.

our leaf is on a 0% deal and deposit was about £270 quid- hand it back after two years job done. some cracking deals on the new Vauxhall* Viva- £499 deposit, £99 a month. only a 1.0 3 cylinder but would be more than adequate for 70% of the journeys I do

*apart from all Vauxhalls are shit..

I'm in my 30s now and my budget is still just what I get paid each month, no invetment or capital. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

What other commutes do you do? Sounds like electric cars are virtually perfect for both of you. Both of your commutes are very enviable, I would be thrilled if I could walk or cycle to work so I'm not burning wages (literally) on fuel.

Compound interest. You want it working for you, not against you.

Says me, up to my eyeballs...

This should probably be in the open forum by now.

I still managed to clock up 15k last year! driving to france all over the UK camping. we very much like just jumping in the car and going for a coffee 50 miles away. also I do more driving around for the kids than I do for myself, gym, swimming, kickboxing, cubs, guids and all that jazz

They sell the cars by saying 'It's new, shiny and will never go wrong'. At the end of the day It's a mechanical component, and can fail at any given moment. It's also not going to cost me £2000 for a mk3 astra engine if the worst happens, and what if you need a new, and bloody expensive, DMF when the clutch fails. :common070:  Try pricing a clutch kit and DMF for one of them Vauxhall Antara thingys. It will cost over £1k. DMF is a Vauxhall only part ATM.  Or the ' I can afford a BMW x5, but would like the cheapest tyre possible please'. :?
