I had never heard of the Ford factory in Cork.  I wonder if any Sierras made there still exist?  The quality could not have been worse than Dagenham's after all (sorry but from experience.....)

Back to Nigeria.

 

Beetle production, parts came from Sao Paulo! Production in Lagos started with Beetles, later they madePassat,  Santanas and Buses there.

They were assembling CKD kits to reduce the taxes due on cars sold within the republic.   So any early Sierra first registered in Ireland would be from that factory, I would guess there would be a few survivors.   Once new European rules came in about tarriff free imports of cars there was no point in having an Irish plant and Ford swiftly shut it down.   The tax laws also made car based van cheaper and they made a few Sierra estate vans.
