Meet the DoomRover

Small update - Today the rover made it onto the ramp for checking. Test is now 2 months away, and I like to be prepared.

Two patches at the sill ends needed (front of inner arch, both sides) NSF jacking point not gone yet but a bit dented from a tyre monkey trying to use it to jack the car up :P.

Moar brake pads needed on the front. Disks look tatty too. Bushes/bearings/boots etc all intact enough to pass.

That's the good bit.

Engine is now mixing oil and water a little, but still driving fine and mostly not overheating. Gearbox has recently decided to imitate a chloride milk float that's late back to the depot, getting louder by the day. I dropped the gear oil out and put some thicker stuff in - it's now a little bit quieter but not much, so it's a race between the engine and the box as to what kills it first.

Obviously, this would be an ideal time to fit a T series instead.

Kids? Come here for a minute, I need to tell you something. You know how Rover wasn't feeling very well, and seemed to always be tired recently and had a funny smell and made odd whining noises? Mummy and I made a decision today, and Rover has gone to live on a farm. It's a nice farm, with lots of fields and rabbits to chase and Rover is going to be very happy there. It's a very long way away though so you can't visit. Go play now.

Whoops... So what was it that finally killed it ? HGF or gearbox ?

Gearbox. The whining noise got worse, lots of vibration and a smell of hot gear oil joined it coupled with heavy fuel consumption and poor performance and over the last few days some very odd handling on corners. Final straw was when it stopped entirely this morning and I discovered that all the sparkplugs had rattled loose.

It's not dead dead though, it's at the yard resting between my grey sierra ghia and the chevanne waiting for the day I decide to do something about it.

Excellent ! Most people (myself included) would have weighed it in !

The fact that I still have a chevanne should say something about the chances of me weighing stuff in!
