Air filter and oil filter look as new so I plan on changing plugs and leads and maybe coil pack. Will price up a scrapper maf too. I've taped up one rubber boot as it had broken up so I would hazard a guess another has but I can't see it. I'm not overly concerned as it doesn't do it all the time. Just a little niggle I'd rather get rid of

First stop with problems on an auto is a change of ATF and clean the filter! Used top be a very messy process on my Omegas but veccy shouldn't be too bad, fill the fecker back upwith the engine running tho

Where is filter? The hbol gives instructions on drain and fill and selector adjustment but nowt else

Personally I'd be focusing on the engine problem.  Your autobox isn't causing a fluctuating idle or lack of throttle response.

idle control valve may need a good blast of carb cleaner iirc mine need a clean at least once

Right I'm pretty certain it isn't the box. If it's in Park or neutral and you quickly blip revs it splutters. Leads me to think coil, leads or plugs. Plugs, oil filter, air filter and oil all look new but that still means didly squat regards a knackered plug fresh out the box.
