Sloth in a bowl Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 After reading all the posts in this thread, I entered the Barry Shitpea requirement data into my 'Shitefinder' TM and the answer came back as... I think 'Shitefinder' TM needs more work Jim Bell and Junkman 2
Jim Bell Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Almost ideal. Only lacking the main concern. Bosch.
320touring Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Almost ideal. Only lacking the main concern. Bosch.bollocks;) my lucas pumped aef 1.9d polo liked 50% veg nobproblem. just try a 50% mix and keep a spare filter handy. worst case scenario you can use veg savings to buy 2nd hand bosch and lines
Lacquer Peel Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 A 50% mix isn't enough to save big coin.I foolishly ran a Rover 218D with a Lucas pump on 100% oil through winter, it conked out after 9000 miles. 320touring 1

What, without an extra fuel preheater? That proves how tough these Lucas pumps are - 9000 miles before borkage! I've run them before through winter on 75% veg, 90%-ish through summer, never had a problem. You just haven't to cane the engine from cold. My theory is that the older/higher mileage they are, the more tolerant they are of gloopy fuel, since there's a bit of wear which allows oil into the gaps to do its lube job.
Lacquer Peel Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Nothing at all to aid it, apart from the standard heated fuel filter housing - XUDs heat up very quickly. It had done well over 170k when I bought it, maybe there's something in your theory.
