Steam cleaning in North East?

Wanting to have MR2 engine bay steam cleaned, but seemingly nowhere does it anymore.

The Kosovan Karwash offered to do it with the pressure washer, after asking if it was diesel and then expecting to find the engine at the front.

What say you, local shiters?

Wasn't steam cleaning meant to be really bad for your car? My ex girfriends dad had a mate at work whose brother was a mechanic who said that you should never steam clean your engine.

However, its probably just died out because nobody want it any more.

Dunno, mate.

Can't see it being an issue if done with engine running and delicate leccy bits bagged up.

I reckon the decline is down to a lack of demand, as everyone now has a dirty diesel with wipe clean placca covers all over the motor.

Cheap enough, mate.

Shame no lance though!

I blasted the concertos engine bay clean with my pressure washer didn't bag up or anything went in bareback.

It wouldn't start afterwards.

But once she dried about as I made sure the engine was hot. She fired up no probs.

Verdict = get stuck in.

So long as you identify the likely electronic suspects to avoid, bag them, then a quick soaking with some TFR type stuff followed by some agitation and a blast off with a cold pressure washer (you can always hook it up to the hot tap if the pressure washer you own allows) she'll be fine.

I have already done this, but due to a leaking dizzy making a mess of my lovely clean gearbox and subframe - before I fixed it - I am reluctant to arse about again!

Looks like I have no choice, though!

Ta for the replies.

Hi, the problem is not with the washing of the engine with suitable precautions as outlined. The problem is the regulations to do with dealing with what is washed off i.e. the oily shit and how it's dealt with. Wash areas need to have interceptors to stop it going down the drains or water courses and that's expensive so usually the sites just stopped offering it.

Steam cleaning engine bays?

I can hear Lacquer Peel's teeth grinding from here.

I'd imagine it died out because you just wipe a cloth over the plastic covers now and it's job done.

I used to steam clean sales car engine bays with a diesel pressure wash.  The fitters used to go mad.
