OK, on a 'basic' service they visually inspect front and rear brakes from the outside edge of the wheel - i.e. you're not paying them to jack it up. It is possible, it's the kind of thing I'll do when I'm washing a car, you can just about make out if there's a lot of meat left on the pads. Also on a basic service though, they check the brake shoes and wheel cylinders. How? They obviously can't be arsed to take the wheel off. It just sounds like something copied out of the Ladybird book of Car Servicing, with a few new buzzwords like Pollen Filter thrown in. Checking the Rotor Arm on a Lexus? If they're going to make it sound like they're a Lexus specialist they might as well make a new .pdf file for each model

sounds like a load of old bollocks.i would say that some cars for sale with a full service history have been treated like this!!!!i remember a guy asking me to "file the outside edge of the brake discs" when i was fitting some brake pads on the front of his fiesta!!!!!"well they never do it on a service, and thats why they are like that",he chirped up.so i said he"d be better off doing his own brake pads......then later he told me he had popped the pistons out to clean them, and got them wedged.he then smashed the disc to bits to get them out......

I don't understand this at all. Lexuses (Lexii?) are powered by either the Dual-BEAMS engine or the rather lovely V8; both of which are highly advanced modern units incorporating all the latest technology. Considering the Mk4 Orion had crank trigger ignition it seems likely that Lexus have discovered such modern science too. So a check of the distributor cap and rotor arm cannot be standard as they aren't there. So the company are a bunch of liars charging for non-existent work. Like checking the "operation and security of the starter motor". The car ain't going nowhere without it. Unless in a strange reversion to ancient construction methods the new LS600 comes with a starting handle. They've also got their servicing schedule the wrong way round. It should, for a major spruce-up go something like:Replace air, oil and fuel filters; drain and replace oil; flush and refill cooling system; check front and rear pads; adjust handbrake linkage; check brake fluid level; replace timing belt, idle roller and water pump; have a smoke; check tyre pressures; do everything else I've forgotten; have tea. Not necessarily in that order.
