citroen xsara fault found.

Bloody cars. Xsara Has a small squeal what started tonight. Upon inspection I found the drivers side rear wheel is occasionally rubbing inner arch. I'm guessing it's a common fault and a bush has gone? How hard is it to repair if anyone is savvy with these cars? Can I run a set of wheel spacers on the rear for the short term? The wheel looks straight though, not camber in like I thought it would be. Thanks.

Rear beam bearing failure I'm afraid . Usually by the time they get to that point another rear axle is the best fix

I thought so. Wheels ain't wonky though that's the thing and it wasn't noticeable when I looked round it earlier. Had a good run out tonight and it's started then. Car been stood a while as old owner gave up driving or snuffed it.

As said, sounds like the beam

Spacers will be fine for now, or you can `adjust` the inner arch with a hammer :)

So spacers should work ok? Don't fancy manipulating rear arch just yet tom!

Yes that will be fine, they are cheap enough from most motor factors

Can be a pain to fit though, so smother it in grease to make it stick in the right position :)

Anyone here run spacers fitted? I bought some yesterday to get me through till I sort the issue. They are larger in centre than my centre part of hub and also the wheels won't go back far enough to sit over the centre of hub too. I don't think it's a wise idea to run it with just wheel nuts holding it on and nothing over hub? Can anyone clarify and point me in right direction? Thanos

It`ll be fine, so long as the wheel nuts are tight it can`t go anywhere....

Of course you could do it properly and head down the Citroen main dealer.....

Would a current citroen dealer know what a xsara is would they?

If i win the lottery or somethink ill take the zx to our local, and ask how much for the many jibs, then laugh as they do it (then not worry about the probably eye watering bill after...)

You need the hub to center it, methinks.

Otherwise your shocks dampers might suddenly and unexpectedly fail due to the wheel imbalance.

AVOID.

I'd rather it be over the hub a wee bit tom to be fair! I agree beko. There doesn't seem to be many xsaras about, all seem to be picasso. And I can't recall last time iseen a zx bar the purple r plate estate I occasionally see

And I've been told the wheel nuts will shear and we will all burn in hell if it doesn't go over hubs too

Sounds to me that rather than rear bearing wear..seeing that you say there's no appreciable negative rear camber on the rear wheels...you've more likely got a weakened rear Torsion bar which is bringing the arse end of the car down. This seems to affect Xsaras more than it does any other Psa car with this set up and whilst not trying to ring any alarm bells here but they have in extreme cases known to snap and collapse the rear suspension completely. I know they can be a right ole pain to change but if the rear arm bearings are still in good nick it might be an option to due some research and chuck another torsion bar in before it sags any further.

The arse Of car isn't sat low though? Only affects one side.
