Puggot 306 1.4 clutch woes...

The clutch on the stepdaughter's 306 is right at the top of it's travel / biting point, and slips when you attempt to give it the beans.

Looking on Ebay, the actual part isn't that dear, but how much of a PITA is the job?

Are we talking piece of piss ( Cortina / Capri) or massive ballache (Citroen gs)?

gIZZA Clue.

If the 306 is anything like the 106 setup it should be fairly straightforward ...

Straight forward but on most psa stuff I fit a new sleeve where the thrust brg runs as they get damaged and only cost 13 quid

I've done this on 205s a couple times, same set-up, if you are fairly confident with a spanner it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Follow Mr Haynes, get car up high and drop N/S end of engine gearbox down low as you can. Take a full day for it and get a mate mid afternoon to help you get then gearbox lined up with the splines and back on, that is the real nightmare job. Don't be tempted to wind the gearbox back onto the splines using the the bolts - you will just strip the threads. Replace the thrust bearing and make sure it is engaged with the fork before putting back together.

Best of luck!

Yeah, not that bad of a job really but as above you'll need a hand getting the gearbox back on. It's doable on your own and sometimes it slips straight on, but sometimes takes three hours and by the time it's on you wish you were dead.
