MarvinsMom Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 the leather trim in the XJ6 is to look its age, has anyone with peeled cow seats had any experience in getting the leather professionally cleaned and refinished? at some point in the cars past someone has had a go with one of those leather paint things, so the front seats have a distinctly yellow tint to them instead of the original cream colour. when i use some cleaning stuff from the local motor factors i end up with a bright yellow cloth, but the seats look the same! at the nec i've seen these snake oil sellers cleaning and recolouring some (usually) hanging old Jaguar car seat. given the nature of some of the chemicals involved, it isn't something i want to try myself and i would sooner pay someone else to do it.
vulgalour Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Keep using the cleaner until the cloth doesn't go yellow. Sounds like the paint hasn't adhered to the seats properly so there's a good chance the original beige is still underneath. It'll take a while but should be worth it. Then feed and clean regularly for a few weeks or months (depending on how bad they are) and they should be good again. This sort of thing just takes forever to resolve or costs megacoin to give it to a professional because it's a horrible job usually.
Jerzy Woking Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I used Gliptone cleaner on the shabby drivers seat on the XJ I had that a previous owner had dyed, badly. It took ages but after 6 or 7 applications it returned to roughly its original colour and after a couple of applications of their conditioner and it was looking good. Well, goodish. Then the electric motors went, followed shortly by the seat frame.
Partridge Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 As someone with a lot of experience with peeled cow arse perches, I'd try this. Before you do anything else, attack them with saddle soap. Most horsey places will sell it. That should shift the yellow muck. Then, use something like AutoGlym Leather Care Cream. As long as it's Ph neutral, any leather car stuff will do. It should only set you back a tenner, so worth a go at least. vulgalour 1
Timewaster Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I used to car share with a bloke who had a very scruffy XJ40 and you could tell when he had used A/G leather care. The seats actually felt softer and comfier. If only the bloody doors would open and it had some lacquer on the bonnet.XJ now long since shipped off to the Chinese saucepan factory.
