I guess you will have but have you flushed the coolant pipes? My Reliant was overheating and it was silt blocking up the back of the block. There was a wee screw so i could clean the back of the block out.

No i've not tried that. I've cleared out the radiator but not run a hose through the system.

I'd definitely do that. Has it had Kseal in it maybe that's blocked it up?

Get on to Mister Maker.  Bet he's got some in his Doodle Drawers.

Mr muscle sink unblocker might do it.

I got an email from rimming Bros saying "did you forget something ?". No remembered all about your fucking 8 quid thermostat delivery fee.

Turns out I hadn't actually completed the purchase . I must have blacked out at the thought of that delivery cost. Anyway it's on it way now, no doubt making piss all difference .

Postage is such a bugger with all these online shops. If you're only after one thing, it's always worth Googling the part number. A bunch of stuff is shared with other cars and available on eBay or locally.

Full parts catalogue is here: http://www.rover-classics.co.uk/pages/reference/reference.html

I've been surprised by how many thermostats/rad caps etc my local motor factors have been able to get in the same day, and really cheaply. They have massive catalogues full of them.

I'd love to keep it hence why I'm trying everything within my limited knowledge to fix it. If I can't then its time to move it onto someone with more experience of exercising haunted p6's.

If there is one thing I learned, it's that any attempt to bodge something makes it worse.

That radiator would not have gone back in mine, before it was recored with a triple net.

In the meantime, I'd have removed and checked the water pump and all hosepipes.

I had this up for sale and some interest was expressed from the gasserlandgranny's. After a bit of thought I decided I wasn't quite ready to sell it as I was thinking the burst radiator was hinting at a radiator issue for the overheating .

The radiator was going to be  Â£150. The car and I needed some space so I stuck in the garage, cancelled the insurance and forgot about it for a couple of months.

A few weeks ago I thought I should maybe get the radiator done so pulled it and had it re-built by east end radiators in Glasgow. This meant tackling Glasgows baffling traffic system, which never mind the destination always seems to have one route in then a totally different route out. On they way back from picking it up (not the same way I went the first time somehow) I ended up driving away from my destination before suddenly being launched up some kind of vehicular helter skelter and deposited some how in the fast of the m8.

Anyway. I got the radiator back and they'd done a good job of it including fixing the broken joint on the feed that goes back to the manifold.

I'd bought a new thermostat from rimmer bros and after my old tube of sealant literally exploded all over the engine bay I order the one they recommended.

Non setting gasket erm, doesn't set, which also means it doesn't hold in water. Even with a proper paper gasket and this stuff effectively just holding it in place the water wazzed out an alarming rate. I've still not 100% figure out what your meant to use it for.

The thermostat on the p6 v8 is an awkward bastard that requires 2 hands and a lot of effort. As a result I got this stuff everywhere and now the engine bay feels like its covered in jam.

I got some normal non exploding,non-non setting gasket it and re-fitted it yesterday. I fired it up today and stat is still leaking (bastard) but not much. How ever 5 minutes of running and...

It starts pouring out the ghost of Junkmans Rover. That and it's bubbling and shitting out water exactly the same as before

Back in the garage, see you when I have an idea (possible never).

Its a shame cars hate me so much as I really like them.

But if you fill the cooling system and then run it without the cap on, it must spit out water!

You are supposed to fill it, put the cap on and just let things happen. It'll spit a bit out of the overflow until it self settles for the correct level.

I've tried it every conceivable way tbh including jacking it up at the front. i was told

I had the same issue with my V8 and the problem was cured by allowing the car to run up to temp withe rad cap off, and then fitting the cap with the engine running at a fast idle. There is a sticker under the bonnet on my p6 with these instructions, but it looks like it is missing on yours. It also says don't check the coolant level with the engine off otherwise it will air lock the system. I think this is because the heater is slightly higher than the rad cap.

This is in contrast to any other car I've changed the coolant on.
