Boring car tax class change question.

Just a boring taxation class question.

Since it's now April, and my 1974 (built & registered) Capri is now able to be tax exempt, how exactly do I do this?

The car currently has a current V5c log book, mot, insurance and tax until August.

I assume all I do is fill in the V5c 'changes' section to historic vehicle, sign and date it, then take this and my mot certificate and insurance certificate to the post office and let them send the V5c back to DVLA to make the change and send me a new V5c.

Is this all I have to do or do I have to fill in the V14 road tax refund form in aswell?

Today is the day that all pre-1975 cars become tax exempt so I've just been down the post office with my V5 for the Mk3, She scanned the barcode, confirmed it was classed as historic now, filled in the taxation change part in section 7, i signed it and she sent it back to the DVLA, It's no tax free, yay!

Thanks.

I'll take mine with me just incase. Can't wait to deprive the taxman of more of my hard earned! That gives me two tax exempt cars now. Saves me £460 odd a year!

Do you still have to go through the motions of taxing historic vehicles every year now that there isn't a disc to display?

I was mildly curious about that. I "taxed" my Galaxie last September shortly before the disc's were scrapped, so I won't be able to answer your question for a few months yet.

Hope this helps? ;-)

Yes, you do still have to go through the motions....Even with the pre-60 MOT exempt stuff.   Can't see the point now they are not checking insurance....
