EBay linky

Wow!

Very quarterlight!

So Range Rover!

Much rare!

...ok, probably of no interest to most here, but may I present NEW rear quarterlight seals for a mk1 Range Rover. They've been unavailable for years, and almost all old Rangies have tatty, leaking affairs. The ones on mine are built up with mastic (really) to keep the water out.

So excitement! etc etc now where's the piggybank?

Such price!  But then, with the value of RRs only going up it's a wise investment to make if you can afford it.

The price...yes, there is that. I can't justify spending that sum in this way, not while the current mastic setup is working so well and looking so good*

When I was working on the RR in 2013, I tried every aftermarket seal supplier going - even the Aussies, who still use solvents banned here by the Evil EUmpire - and no luck. They're a bastard of a pattern.

I don't understand why things like this can't be made. Isn't it just a case of a specially made die on an extruder then gluing them together to get the right shape?

I was told that it's uneconomic to do small runs, unless you're selling at high high prices, which is why Woolies and other aftermarket seals places do big-volume stuff or general-use patterns. Unfortunately the RR rear quarterlights are a weird cross-section.

Buying proper parts?? This website has changed, what's the matter with mastic, mixed with bits of daily mirrors and twigs for strength?

Surely we should use the standard AS rule of thumb: If it mves and it shoudn't-Duck Tape and if it doesn't move when it should WD40! Everything else is just making work for yourself!
