vectra suspension issues.

The vectra bust a spring just before Christmas and I replaced it. Had an occasional noise felt through steering wheel and also could hear it,sort of a rubbing, scratching noise. I couldn't find an issue but I changed top mount and the rubber donut bearing as a matter of course. The car is still making the noise and today I noticed the spring feels like it's sticking somewhere when wheel is turned. If you put hand on the spring when turning steering wheel you can feel a sort of notchiness through it. Hard to explain but hopefully you folk may know what I mean. Any help or ideas appreciated. Thanks

Could it be described as a cracking sound? If so there's a fix for that (I think!). I'll try and find the details, assuming I have remembered correctly.

Yea it does sound like a cracking/creaking noise. It's had new top mount with bearing built in ane also rubber donut underneath

I had a similar problem with a 2001 mondeo. Clonking from the front - two different garages could not find anything wrong.

A bit of research revealed that the strut top bearings were probably at fault - however it would appear that the only cure was replacement with genuine ford items as pattern items did not always provide a cure.

At this point I bailed out a bought a vectra.

That'll teach me.

You have put a curse on me.

Just been out in my vectra - doing the same as yours.

All vauxhalls really are shit.

It's just a noise.....not due to a nasty cause.........just embrace it as a feature

I love the vectra if I'm honest but be happier when the metro is on road. Will try some rubber hose round the lower part of spring to stop it rubbing but if it carries on ill let been strip his, swear a lot then find the issue and tell me what it is!
