Brake band adjustment

Recommended Posts

Posted

Many moons ago the gentleman that looked after my M-I-L's granada commented that he felt as if the brake bands on the auto box needed adjustment.

The haynes BOL tells you how to do this, but I do not know what they do.

Incidentally they need adjusting every 24k on the GM 180 box in my SD1.

Any auto box guru can explain?

Ford C3?

It has two bands, but only the front one can be adjusted, i.e. 3 and R. It's forward of the selector arm on the LH side of the box.

Torque it to 13,5 Nm, then 1.5 turns back.

Tighten the adjusting screw locknut to 47-61 Nm while holding the adjuster itself still.

You will need a 1/2" (IIRC) square socket of 1" length to do the adjustment.

The rear one, i.e. 1 and 2, is actuated by a non-adjustable servo, which is bolted to the control block.

To get it out for servicing is a sump off job.
