Had a trip to Nottingham this weekend and took an hour out to visit the Transport Heritage Centre at Rushcliffe Country Park....Deffo going back for another look....Seems to attract old cars on a Sunday, too.

Those DeLoreans aren't the greatest looking cars, are they?

Shit! That's my old panorama wrecker! I bought it in partnership with an long time friend. We lost contact years ago and I always wondered if he ever got it finished. Although it doesn't look it, it's surprisingly unrotten under those panels and was very strong mechanically (stainless exhaust too FTW!)

Edit: looks like it's been engine raped. Sad end.

Shame if it has been raped, though there does seem to be a fair amount of self-build going on up there in addition to the "official" stuff.   I will keep tabs on it next visit!

Ah, it didn't cost a lot to buy just a imperial shitload (well it was a 1966 one!) to get the correct missing windows (there were none when we bought it) and to store it. As long as it helped another machine keep going, it didn't die in vain.

One of its best features was the pedestal gear change. Not the usual small leopard type but a huge cast aluminium jobbie, only fitted to early pneumocyclic boxed buses. I'd only ever seen a four speed version of it before this one ( this was a five speeder)

It was like this but five speed:

Edit: IIRC it was GHA327D

That's well early for one those, isn't it?!   Don't know what is happening with it, I was with grand-kids today so didn't have loads of time to poke around.  If she was for breaking I would have thought they would have wanted those windows out and safely stored, maybe...Like I said, loads happening up there (albeit slowly) so things might not be so grim for it.

Aye, bus preservation, if on your own or with a small group, can be painfully slow and terrifyingly expensive (it bankrupted me twice - I never learn) A friend of mine took 22 years to get his Derby Trolleybus restored. Absolutely fabulous when he finished it though, it was like a new bus!
