...when I gave it some welly it was quickish but not rapid for having my foot on the floor. Then WHAMMO, it's like the taps had opened full and it lit the wheels up at about 65 giving a wiggle and making me let our a girly squeal...

Yep. Even my 280 does this, though I do sometimes kick down into 3 to give it a little more welly if I want to pass something quickly.

There's definitely something not right as it comes on and off and it's not subtle in any way shape or form.

 

The problem is somewhere in here. It looks like the predators jock strap tbh I wonder if took all the shite of their'd be two pintos bolted together.

Here's the boot lid issue. It sits up a few mm.

My SL (same engine?) started running 'oddly' at one point and that turned out to be an air leak from one of the HUNDREDS of tiny pipes hidden under that big plastic cover! Nice cheap repair in my case.

That's very odd about the bootlid sitting upward. My 827 Coupe has this and I've noticed it on other Coupe type vehicles too....
