RoadworkUK Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Back in the day, when I was the most heroic 18 year old in the world and owned a Champagne (no.. beige) Acclaim HL with a Saisho radio cassette, I was all too familiar with its Honda Origins. Yet I always wanted to know more.I found various old "world car catalogues" and the like and saw many images of JDM Honda Ballades, all of which looked like an Acclaim with jauntily placed wing mirrors and different badges. This was entirely satisfactory..... until now.eBay is a right bastard inasmuch as it gives me reasons to part with cash for unnecessary old tat, and true to form I was so victorious in one particular auction that this arrived on my doorstep:Oh Yes. JDM Ballade overload. Much jizzing occurred immediately and delirious excitement was had. I looked through the brochure, wiping away drool as I went, and the Ballade proved to be even more wondrous than I had ever imagined.A 1.5 litre engine? Electric mirrors? A "Navigator"? All this and much more. And check out that front end styling and the sporty wheels. Why couldn't the Acclaim have looked that splendid?Having previously written about the Acclaim brochure (here) in detail, I went on to do the same with the Ballade, to a partially interested audience. Intriguingly, The Internet is very sparse with detail about this facelifted Ballade model ever even existing- the next Ballade they mention was the SD3-type that we all know and, er, love? More pics and write-up here if you're interested. You may need a wipe-clean membrane installed over your keyboard first. Skizzer, saucedoctor, Jim Bergerac and 8 others 11
