Peugeot 106 issues

My housemates Passat blew up big style on the M1 the other day, so I picked him up a really clean and tidy Peugeot 106 which had been part-ex'd at a local dealer. It was pennies, but does have a couple of issues. Firstly the exhaust is blowing - usual 106/Saxo back box. So i'll pick one of those up on Monday. It also has an idling issue, where it fine most of the time, but sometimes it will hunt rhythmically from 500 to 1200 rpm, and if your cruising on a low thottle opening it will lose power. If you dip the clutch and rev it, it more often than not will return to normal for the next few miles.

I've had a google around, and seen it could be a temp sensor, but also seen it could be an ECU. Anyone had any experience of this fault?

Auto choke/stepper motor? Exactly the same thing my AX did when the mechanism got dirty and worn. A replacement was a quick fix, cleaning it helped for a while.

May be worth checking the little vacuum pipes that run off the air filter - if these are clogged or split then they will cause rough running in some cases.
