I think that the interesting difference from times past is the way they are funding it.   Many schemes have failed in the past because the banks have pulled the plug on funding.   By crowd sourcing the funding they might have more of a chance of bringing it to market.

 

Got to say I quite like the look of it but the fact that their test mule uses a Geo Metro (1992 Suzuki Swift) engine and suffers brake fade, 6 years after starting the company, doesn't make them seem the best engineers in the world.
