Stopid Bluddy Hunda (part 2)

So I paid a local Muppet company to do some repairs to my daily driver, and whilst they did some of it to an acceptable standard and only screwed me a little on the price, when it came to the ABS/VSA warning light issue that would stop me getting an MOT, they really only 3/4 fixed it.

Basically the ABS light is now off, and the ABS works, the VSA (vehicle stability assist - traction control basically) light is off, and the traction control appears to work, but there's a warning triangle with a ! in the middle which they admit has got the better of them.

They could read a code with their snap on tool, and it's 84-1 Sensor Logic Fault.  Anyway, I wasn't in the mood to argue, and paid the bill, and left.

When I get home I notice that they've applied a bastard mark up to every part supplied (I know what most of them cost, because I priced them up previously) for example the wheel sensor they replaced.  Bosch Part is £48 from Eurocar parts, and Honda dealer charges £165. and I'm charged £147 for a part that isn't either make.

The diagnostics of the ABS fault comes to £95 plus Vat

On the other hand they have forgotten to charge me for the 4 tyres.

So I've found out that the code that is forcing the warning triangle can only be removed with Honda's own diagnostics, or a very clever specialist.

At some point the garage might try and invoice me for the tyres, and I'm not inclined to pay when the job isn't complete.  I could ask them to fix it, but I now have lost all trust in them.

Now here's the thing.  On my favourite one make forum, there's a forum member who is both well thought on, and runs a tuning company, and he could turn it off for not much cash, or alternatively I could have the full stage 2 with EGR deletion, and increase power from 136 to 180 Bhp and torque from 340 Nm to 380 Nm (and obviously have all the codes turned off properly) for about what I didn't pay for the tyres.

It's not really very autoshite, but it would turn the car into a bit of a beast.

SHALL I ?

Umm, how likely is the warning triangle to come back again after it's reset, due to the original problem not actually being fixed?

The problem is fixed, because that was the rear wheel sensor, and that's been replaced. It's just that you can't just replace it, you have to 'calibrate' it or rather reset it, and only Honda (plus some dedicated professionals have the kit) to reset it. (Apparently)

Honda sensors don't need to be calibrated. some one is telling porkies

Really ? You sure ? How is it that at Type accord dot co dot uk, (or gooogle) a search on VSA warning lights and 84-1 Sensor Logic Fault results in being told that you need HDS to sort it.

Honda must spend a fortune in publicity 'educating owners' that only Honda Dealers can (expensively) fix Hondas.

Simply not true in my experience.

I see the problem here. You seem to have bought a late model vehicle.

The garage hasn't completed the job. Therefore you can argue the toss if they invoice for the tyres, dunno how successful that would be though. They are entitled to mark up the price of the bits though, they are a business after all, just like any other.

Sent from my Nokia 3310 using the force.

Oh look, the name of a Japanese motor manufacturer and the word "logic" in one sentence...

I know on a Toyoyo I can't replace all the emissions systems with new parts, reset it with a generic and expect it not to self-destruct after a few weeks because it actually needs to be reset to zilch with TIS so it can relearn all the new gear, so it really wouldn't surprise me that there's something similar on an Onda.

That's what would've concerned me anyway, how likely is this effin fault likely to plague me again after a few weeks? If it isn't then the world is your lobster, seems a bit pricey for a map but if it's what you fancy then go for it.

Alternatively, I've found black insulating tape is very good for hiding all those pesky warning lights on the Toyoyo...

They are indeed entitled to mark up the price, but in order to get my repeat business, they need to mark up by a %age that is reasonable, and actually fix the one problem they told me they had the equipment to diagnose.

On both points, they won't get repeat business, and I won't recommend them to any one.

Actually I'm being unfair.  My problem was that I couldn't get an MOT and now I have one.
