There's a red renault 9 GTL on the bay, i'm going to see if i can view it tomorrow.

Apart from normal old car stuff is there anything specific to this model i should be looking at?

I can't afford another car, nor do i have space for one.........but i want it!

Dad had one for 13 years. No issues over and above regular servicing apart from one heater matrix, a gearbox mount, and two snapped clutch cables. Oh, and the drunk twat who wrote it off by rear ending it one night and driving off, leaving us with an immaculate yet now worthless right off.

In common with other transverse engined Renaults of the time (5, 9, 11), keep a clutch cable handy. Otherwise it will be any trim or electrical issues that will affect anything of similar vintage.

Rust. Rust, rust, electrics, anything plastic.

Rear wheel arches, inner and outer. Lift the carpet in the boot. Sills, rear beam mounting points. I think the GTL was the 1.4? If so, bulletproof. If it's the 1.7, get a cambelt history. If it doesn't have one, change the belt and tensioners. Bit of a pig to do with the engine in.

Window winding mechanisms are made from Brie, and don't swap between the 9 and 11. Dashboard gauges can get a bit flaky due to bad connections which are generally fairly easy to fix.

If the gears feel like stirring pudding, that can be rectified rapidly by adding some padding into the bottom of the gear stick hole.

Oh, and rust.

GTL will be the venerable 1397cc OHV unit. As m'learned Alliance owning comrade above states, these are indeed pretty much unburstable.

I was one of the underbidders on this last time around.

Looks fantastic for the money, but bear in mind that these will still have almost no value when you have sorted the fuel problem and tested it.

All that puts me off is the long trips costs to get it, so if your local I say get in...

I was looking at that too.

Looks very appauling.

Carb is more likely than shit filled tank for problem diagnosis I should have thought.

Good luck with her!
