I don't love modern cars.  In fairness, years ago, think of the state four year old cars might be in years ago - I remember when the scrap yards suddenly filled up with Sunbeam Alpines (the FWD ones) when they were not much older than that.

While my 55 fiesta st has had some problems there's been none with the engine and there's no rust anywhere. It used to be that cars of that age (especially ARG and English fords) were just full of holes all over

But this is the really, really irritating thing about modern cars......They don't rust and the engines go on forever.   Good progress, then, and as stated we can all remember 5 year old Anglias with flapping wings and fuming breathers.   So WTF are they chock full of useless electronic shit and complicated arrangements just to enable a window to open or even start the damn thing.   Its for this very reason, and their sheer pugliness that I'm out and my fleet stops at 1990.

That raises an interesting point.  Think what amazing cars we could have with modern reliability, lack of rust and if they were much simpler and didn't go so fast.  If they all didn't go so fast, I think they'd be able to save loads of accident measures and sound proofing and so on, and end up using very little fuel.

I was rather surprised when a CV joint failed on my 2010 Yeti a few weeks back, after 71k miles. It's somehow integral to the driveshaft apparently, so needed the whole shaft replacing. It has been off-road, but not often and not lately, and had just been MOTd so the boots should have been fine.

I was rather less surprised when the DMF went after 3 years, mind.

It's never actually left me at the roadside, however, unlike the Porsche I had before which went into STOP NOW OR CAT WILL DIE mode after an ignition coil packed up. But that's a rather more highly strung thing, and never missed a beat otherwise in 4 years and 66k, a little of it being properly thrashed round a track.
