Advice required from Ford 2.8i expert, please

I'm still in the process of recommissioning my 1984 Granada 2.8i with the K-jetronic.

As you can see in this pic:

The fuel distributor, i.e. the hexagonal part to the right, has a provision on its side, visible at the corner pointing towards you, where you attach a fuel pipe leading to the cold start valve located on the intake plenum.

I obtained a new* fuel distributor that came out of a Capri, which is basically the same and works. However, it is missing this provision for taking off fuel for the cold start valve:

Hence cold starting the car is a bitch in tins.

My question is, where did the Capri get the fuel for the cold start valve from?

Googling the part number from the lower photo - 0 438 100 067 tells me that fuel distributor in the lower photo is for a 5 cylinder Audi.

Yes, but you get the idea. Those photos are from the interweb for illustration purposes only.

I've taken this photo and annotated it with what pipes go where, with the exception of the injectors which should be obvious.  I may have got the fuel return and inlet round the wrong way but that shouldn't be too hard to work out.

This unit originally came from a Granada 2.8i, which was a straight swap onto the Capri.

Left and right is taken as you are looking at the engine from the front, looking towards the rear of the car.

And the fitting for the cold start injector on plenum is simply blank on the unit I got from a Capri.

Now what?

Can you not drill and tap where it should be? Hopefully the inner casting would be the same

If it doesn't work, I'm looking at 3-400 Pounds damage.

Can you post a picture of the unit that you've got?

It looks exactly like the one in the first picture I posted, with the exception that the provision for fitting the pipe for the cold start injector on plenum isn't present, like on the one in the second picture I posted.

This is the K-jet as fitted to my 5cyl Passat

The cold start injector line is the pipe with the yellow ball on it - the boss on the side is an undrilled blank on this unit too

This is the cold start injector in situ on the inlet manifold

No help to you, but the XR4X4 I briefly had was equipped with what appeared to be a 5th injector fitted to the square intlet manifold. Its use was specifically to inject extra fuel for cold starts and suchlike.

Just as Grundig has shown in his supplied photo.

Ahhh that's a bit of a loss if it isn't, bloody k jet :@

Yes, same on Granada/Capri. We call it the plenum. The question is where this injector gets its fuel from, when there is no fitting on the fuel distributor for the pipe feeding it.

Has that metering head definitely come from a Ford ?  can you be sure it's not a VAG 5 cyl one that the Capri owner fitted?

Posted

I would say that if the Grandada has a cold start valve fitted as standard, then that metering head is not the correct one.

That said, from what I have read up and understand, every K Jet system uses the same components, so to see a MH without provision for a cold start valve is surprising.

Of course I can't be sure. Only God knows what daft things people do to cars in 30 odd years. Interestingly, if it is indeed an Audi unit, the Ford V6 runs rather well with it, if you can get past the starting procedure.

So, on to the next question then. Does anyone out there have a metering head for a Granada kicking about he wants to get rid of?

try the for sale / wanted section on ovalchat , these things get binned off for a carb setup when bangering them so should be a few lying about drivers yards
