That was great back then. A closed road, mud, gravel and cow feces getting whipped up by wide tyres.

I dropped onto the forum about an hour ago, went to this thread and was sucked into youtube, watching old rallies.

 

There's some superb camera work to match the fine sounds, on this vid from the early 70s. The slow-motion is awesome for 1973 (and love the casual arse-shot at 2:30). One of the navigators broke bones in his back - "This means disqualification for the Finn when he leaves his navigator in hospital before reporting to the finish".
