Tax exempt question

My 1974 Lotus Elite was registered in late June 1974.

When will it be tax exempt will it be 1/4/15?

Bit confused when it will be exempt!

It will be tax exempt if its 40 years old or more next year.

I'm well chuffed to be in the same boat here with a 1974 VW camper (From memory it was built in March)

 

A quick Google gets me this online form https://emaildvla.direct.gov.uk/emaildvla/cegemail/dvla/en/vehicle_1_5.html should I just fill it out and send it off with historic in the taxation class field?

Correct, the tax exemption starts from 1st April 2015 for cars built in 1974

next year is from jan 1st its only april this year.

I shall wait a year then,  it'll be at least that long before it's MOTed anyway.
