Cost of road tax for 80's chod

Recommended Posts

Just taxed my little 958cc Talbot Samba and it’s gone up again, £79 for 6 months! We need a big campaign to get a more sensible road tax for 80’s cars. I love my old chod and want to see more saved. But we get no help. It’s all about 60’s and early 70’s. :-(

Thats still cheaper than most 80s chod, and far cheaper than bigger modernz. My car is £155 for 6 months, afraid youll need to grin and bear until its 40 years old.

if you wait 10-15 years it will be tax exempt. Historical tax class went rolling again, this time set at 40 years.

Hey, why not start an e-petition? I will also start a petition and so will my mates. If enough of us start one, then several of the classic car mags can also start a petition each and we will be well on our way.

I think if you start about 100,000 seperate petitions it will be considered for discussion and dismissed by the government who have better* things to worry about.

Goes up every time I tax my car has since I can remember, kinda grown used to it. Anything over £200 for 6 months is expensive, although I'm hoping the new rules will allow for single months to be bough at a time.. not that I own a post 2006 car in that tax band.

That's already the cheap rate being under 1549cc isn't it? my '95 volvo 940 is £126 for six months.(yeah, my choice, I know)

Obviously the fairest thing would be to tax on useage rather than engine size maybe tacked on to fuel duty but I would not trust any govt to do this properly and fairly.

Obviously the fairest thing would be to scrap the Vehicle Excise Duty altogether and at the same time lower the fuel duty, to enable us to spend more of our money on what we want, instead on what the guffament wants.

That's the spirit, reach for the stars!!

I would be happy to have it set at rolling  at 30 years, that way I might live long enough to see all of ours become tax free.....

Always cheaper to tax for 12 months and cash in the unused months when you have finished.

I appreciate that you need the upfront cash but it is the only way to get a discount.

Don't forget plans are afoot to pay monthly, though I am sure that will be FAR more expensive....
