A thread for those cars we almost bought.

To start with, I put in a bid for this little french number, but money was rather tight this month and am cheesed that it only went for £310

Every car in every auction that I didn't buy, in the car on the way home the discussion would invariably start; 'Shoulda bought......'

Although it's preferable than attaching a towrope to another knackered old shit heap and saying;

'Why did we buy.......'

It is said that it is better to be down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here, but I'm not always sure.

After doing a random good deed running to get fuel for a guy on a motorbike who was stuck on a country lane at 11pm at night, we got talking about Ford's as he commented on my capri, he offered me a sapphire cosworth he had for £1000 I kick myself for not buying it

Tayne, you had a lucky escape.  I've driven a G, they are horrible in every way.

Subaru legacy 2.5 on a p plate. Fully loaded with rally graphics in a dark blue colour. This was in 2008. The guy was in his 60's and owned it from new. He wanted my s reg rover 618 and a 100 quid for it. I didn't have money at the time

About 10 years ago I worked for LloydsTSB and they own a car leasing firm that then sells on some of the stock to staff at a pleasant discount.

I saw a 1 year old Accord Type R with 10k miles on the clock for £11,000, I could have bought it, run it for a year and still sold at a profit. 2 days later it was gone.

When I worked for  a shipping line we had a container in storage for a couple of years for which the freight never got  paid, never  mind the colossal storage bill.    I was told to  allow access to a salvage buyer.   Inside were two fully spec'd Integrale Deltas, one of which was RHD.   I was told I could bid if I wished by our claims manager.   Didn't bother, but matey salvage buyer got 'em for a monkey each.   Doh.....
