World shite production

Sounds to me like I should look into importing a new beige Paykan PDQ.

What I find a lot more shocking is that 1 car out of 4 is Made in China, of all godforsaken places.

If you build 1/4 of the World's cars, one should be assuming, that you at least got something right.

Alas, this is not the case.

You know what I like about England?

Today's people drive tomorrow's cars on yesterday's roads.

Expecting beat uppage now.

I like how the USA has five times our population but only makes twice the number of cars.

Interestingly, the Australia figure will be zero in a few years when Toyota, Ford and GM close the factories that they're recently announced.

Iran is still a big country, remember, and I met a lot of Iranian (or Persian as they preferred to call themselves, weirdly) students at University. They said their country was very normal and middle class; they were very embarrassed by the political situation which is all we see on the news.

What do they make in Holland? I thought Volvo and Mitsi had factories there, but 40,000 a year is nothing.

Slovakia makes the most cars per capita. Weird

BMW have recently bought the old Volv0/renault/Mitsubishi/DAF factory in Holland i think

On the news it said the Uk had overtaken Spain in shite production. It's good to see we make more than Italy.

In Iran, Morattab currently make the Santana version of the SIII landy.  Poor creatures.

Valeo is French  :-P

And I suppose the Finland thing could have arisen from Valtra/Sisu somehow ending up in that number, or unsold old Porsches being registered. Unless somebody has some impressive fact about long lost Finnish car/snowmobile companies...

Nobody's biting, Junkman.....I prefer to think of  myself as 20th century person driving 20th century automobiles on 17th century roads.   I also prefer to  read the statistics in my 1968 World Car Catalogue.   Everything else is too depressing.....

So what are all these cars made in Iran?  That map shows a Renault factory but small production numbers.

I guess if this was value related, the UK would be much higher.

Interesting though, thanks.  All doesn't sound very sustainable though, does it?

Well, whatever the taxes are used for, it's not for investing in infrastructure, that's for sure.

IKCO Samand

Saipa Miniator/Siba

Tondar 90

Khodro Samand

Many Renault and Peugeot derivatives.

Those cars are widely exported to other countries within the Arab/Asian region.

Persia also makes many heavy lorries and also motorcycles.

What I observed when I was there, is that many Persians are real petrolheads. You can see a lot of really nice cars there. They have a lively and well organised classic car scene, and they are as motorbike crazy as the Italians. Actually, the entire Middle East is pretty motorbike savvy, be it Turkey, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and of course Israel. And I do mean motorcycles, not mopeds.

Here, a few pics from Iran.

Looking at this, I know one thing for sure - those people are guaranteed not my enemies.

The big problem of us Euros is, that we are so resting on our laurels, and are so entangled in red tape, that we don't even notice how we are surpassed left, right, and centre.

I notice that there are no pointers in Nigeria or Kenya. I thought Peugeot still made cars there (as they were building the old 504s).

VW had a plant in Nigeria, too, I thought.....Speaking of Iran as we were, what  about the old Shah.   That man was a king-sized  petrol head.

Wow.  All I can say is thanks for the information and also thanks for the most extraordinary photographs I have ever seen.

Amazed Italy is so far down the list, presume most Italian metal is destined for the home market?

Posted

...presume most Italian metal is destined to oxidise very quickly?

Let me help you with that.
