Subaru Forester - OK or a world of pain waiting to happen?

Older generations were known to give grief at 100k or so, i had one lose reverse but loads that carried on way past that. Again though, it s much better going for a 53 plate onwards 2.5, old ones were good, but newer ones were better. Salons are undesirable and cheaper. Quite rare in 2.5 though.
