Charidee shop, shurely? Unless its smeared with oily stains and missing its cover or summat.I bought all my favourite car fiction at charity shoppes, including Allagro (Autobooks) and Haynes Escort MkIII, Visa, 2CV&Dyane. Not that I own any of the cars like! My fave find was an AA Road Safety hardback tome dating from circa 1982, full of priceless pages worth of grot 8) I never throw away a book if I can help it :) Mark.

Since I've been helping out at a charity shop, the number of car servicing/DIY books I've binned has been countless - precisely all those AA/Readers Digest Book of the Car/Book of the Road etc etc etc - simply no interest any more, as well as being hopelessly out-of-date. Road maps/atlases, unless basically new, also go in the skip.Haynes manuals for anything that stopped production pre 1995ish also get binned - there's a finite amount of shelf space and car manuals just sit there for ever. I used to never throw out a book either - until I realised how much unreadable and/or unsellable crap is out there.

CLAIM TO "FAME" :shock::shock::shock:

In my original copy (first edition) of the Haynes Renault 19 manual, the metric tightening torque specs for the entire rear suspension set-up of the R19 was 10x that of the recommended norm, for every single component!

I wrote to Haynes to point out the fairly obvious fact, but they quickly wrote back a very nice letter saying that they'd got it wrong and they replaced my book for free.

However, even the second edition was wrong as they the quoted a completely different torque (nowhere near enough) for the rear hubs. I wrote to thank them and pointed out that there was still an quite major error, compared to the Genuine Renault manual. Oddly enough I didn't hear back, but the mistake was again corrected in a later copy. :wink:
