Putting them all in the same envelope? You don't think there is actually someone there doing this do you? Its all done by a machine, prints the envelope onto the pre folded paper off a stack or roll and then inserted into the pre paid envelope for mailing?

When I was in the Army, I was part of the Ist Battalion, the Coldstream Guards. I moved house and informed DVLA of my move. My V5C and driving licence both came back addressed to Mr T Taff, I Coldstream Gardens

Don't phone them, don't phone the DVLA - you'll only be marked as having received the letter so they'll take that as an excuse to send even more, now they know that you're at that address and it's your car etc.

 

If you're going to ignore, do it properly.

Worked for the Cosworth I just had to send out a 2nd V890 as the first one was lost , escaped a fine, dont have to SORN the other 2 due to them "dropping off the system"

I tried to SORN 3 online, it didn't work so that was all the effort I put in. I expect 3 fines in the mail. I will ring them and say, excuse me but I sent 3 V888 forms in the post nearly two months ago and keep checking online but they still aren't showing as sorned, can you confirm you have received my forms? If not please SORN them now while i am on the phone. And they will say no to that probably but that should get me off paying the fines.

The DVLA do my head in, my blood pressure is raising just at the mention of them. I'm not changing my cars until they're bad enough to need crushing to minimise having to deal with them.

It's probably no help but I have a positive story to tell.

 

Over 18 months ago we bought my daughter a low mileage Rover 100 (Metro) for her first car but as she was only 15 at the time, we stuck it in the garage and promptly forgot to SORN it.  The previous owner had died and so no-one had sent off the V5C, either. 

 

Fast forward to April 2014 and daughter (now 17) needs to register the car and I realise that we'd buggered it up.  So, we sent off a V62 saying that we had never received to V5C after the sale (but not telling them why) and that we requested a new one.  Not only did they send the new V5C free of charge but they haven't made any awkward noises about gaps in the SORN .

My ex used a V62 to reregister my car to herself, 2 years after I bought it. I still had the V5 but they just issued a new one in her name.

I have to say that when my local DVLA office (Bangor) was still open, the staff there were genuinely awesome and even tried to help me out when the screw-ups were blatantly my own fault. However, experience has taught me that phonecalls to Swansea may just as well be directed to the speaking clock. As I've probably said before, while most transport-related government policies just make me shrug and drink more tea, the decision to scrap local DVLA offices properly boiled my pi55 beyond all belief. They were the one redeeming feature of a department that had taken bureaucracy to ludicrously comedic levels of incompetence. And when told to slim down their operations, instead of starting to dismantle the out-dated behemoth that is the VED system, DVLA decided to remove the one arrangement that enabled people to sort out their paperwork with total confidence and reliability. Utter Twunts.

The are supposed to check with the registered keeper before issuing a new V5C.  Clearly they had not in the case of my daughter's Metrover because there was a very short space of time between the application and the issue of the new one.
