Saab hesitation problem

Recommended Posts

My 9-5 turbo has been giving me grief for a while  -  grief is probably overstating it but it's bloody annoying.

The engine light is permanently on although the garage who've looked at it a few times can't find any codes.  The issue for me is an intermittent hesitation/cutting out, usually when warming up and always after a warm start. They have looked at a range of possible solutions but none has worked.

It's going back in tomorrow but have any shiters come across this before?

There is a very slight exhaust blow, barely noticeable, but could that have something to do with it?

Thanks.

The ignition di packs play up.remember to leave it an hour or so after fitting before starting if it's been on its side or upside down. They have cooling oil inside which needs to trickle back to where it should be otherwise it overheard the pack.

I've got one you could borrow for diagnosis but I expect you aren't in Cornwall

It sounds like you need a different scanner on it, not all scanners read all faults on all cars. I have acess to a Solus Pro which reads 39 systems on a 2000 Polo but only 2 on a 2004 BMW 530D today. If the light is there should be something to read.

Snap on don't do Saab . Ask me how I know .

Spend over a grand and find it doesnt do my own car.

Check all your vac pipes too.

Also check the plug on to the di unit- fat fingered mechanics sometimes dont release them properly and they don't connect very well if the red slide clip is broken. Been to a few broken down because of this. Two Smoke is spot on about not putting them upside down too. I still remember a smack on the back of the head as an apprentice for doing this.

Thanks for the advice!  When it's not stuttering like a dead king it absolutely flies.  Would a shagged DI be sporadic or would it be like that all the time?

Like any coil they can break down at different temps. Mainly when hot.

Mind you there is more than coils in a Saab di pack.
