Dealer Plates

After mentioning dealer plates from DMB Graphics on here a few times, I decided to order a dealer set after being impressed with the quality of the design, attention to detail and the customer service from DMB, I went for a custom set based on photos I sent them rather than a set they already produced -Robert Wyper Renault in Irvine (once a fairly large Ayrshire dealer group), as my Clio (bought by me from Parks Renault East Kilbride) was sourced by Parks Renault East Kilbride for me from Parks Renault Irvine (the former Robert Wyper garage the dealer set is for, acquired when Parks bought Wypers in 1998) who had also sold my car new and got it back as a part ex to resell. The set is based upon genuine items I got photos of from an N reg Renault 5 and I've included photos of the originals for comparison.

Anyway enough talking crap, I thought some of you shiteists may be interested as I know some of you like the idea of original supplying dealer items for your chod and if its missing from your car and the dealer has since gone the way of the dinosaur this is the next best thing/your only way of getting "originals" now.

Christ, they're excellent.

UK Renault dealers must have had a standard tem[plate] they bought their blanks from - the long deparated Jackson & Edwards on Manchester Road (now Bristol Street Motors) used a similar design.

I'd love a new set of Volvo Mayfair plates for the 460, along with a tax disc holder. I have the rear dealer sticker, do you think they'd extrapolate a tax disc holder design off it for me?

They do look really good.

Of course, 99.9 per cent of people won't notice - but it's the <0.1 per cent of us on here that matter!

Yeah the tax disc holder I got done was made up using the rear window sticker design as I couldn't get an original tax disc holder to copy.

There's a slight difference in the font he's used compared with the originals, the rounded letters of the font are similar but turns out there's 2 very similar but different fonts with rounded letters and the wrong ones been used but I'm putting that down to me giving him poor pics of the originals to work with that weren't close up enough and he could only get them almost identical but yeah they still look fantastic and unless you had an original to compare you'd never know they weren't.

It's sad that with the number plate laws these days and the large dealer groups swallowing up all the smaller places autoshite of 20years time won't have any interesting dealer plates/stickers on them, just generic/uniform

ones from arnold clark/evans halshaw/lookers no matter which branch sold the car.

Agreed, they look great. I think at least 2 of my Rovers have dealer plates, but surprisingly, none of them are Rover dealers.

Mk1 The E-reg Sterling Sterling seems to have been supplied by something Waite Brothers in Otford

Mk1 D-reg 820E was supplied by a place called 'Motor City' which has a colourful mid-80s like logo but no address.

Mk1 G-reg 827 Sterling came from 'Evans Autos' in South-West London.

Mk2 N-reg Sterling came from somewhere in Bristol, possibly a Rover dealer which has now turned into a Kia dealer.

Mk2 R-reg KV6 from Shields Rover in Glaaasge.

So I'd probably be able to track down the supplier of the N-reg car, definately the R-reg but the all the Mk1s seem to have no trace of supplying dealer. As there is a car 'dealer' plate still on the front of the G-reg, I might get a back one made up. But I also need an engine for it.

Here are some pics I uploaded:

a bit off topic but does anyone know where to get plates without a v5?

I got my plates from DMB without a V5 but they're a bit pricey if you're just wanting ordinary reg plates. Other Internet based companies will do them without a v5 e.g. Fancyplates, a1 plates. No1 show plates etc etc and they do road legal ones.

According to here: http://www.westerhamgarage.co.uk/about.htm Waite Bros was taken over by Wolfe Garage and became a VAG dealership, a bit of investigating leads me to suggest the garage is now Beadles Volkswagen, Sevenoaks Road, Otford TN14 5PA.

Evans Autos are still going as well. They're even still using the same logo and phone number: http://www.evansautos.co.uk/

This has got me having a nosy...

Kastner Volvo in Exeter supplied the 940; they're still on the go. Sadly it only still has it's Kastner tax disc holder and dealer sticker. My missus' brother stays in Exeter. The 940 being LPG'd will be the weapon of choice for our next Exeter trip. Excellent.

The Council Estate was supplied new by Bill Boddice (Garages) Ltd of Enville Street, Stourbridge (Lord Sterling's manor?); it appears the dealer is gone, but it was supplied new to haulier J.T. Payne & Sons who are still on the go. Might drop them a phonecall to see if any bugger remembers it.

The Montego was supplied new to Royal Ordnance by Hall Motors (Rover) of Bengal Street, Chorley; it carries dealer plates and stickers for Hepburn of Blundellsands.

No idea who supplied the 760, most likely Bickets of Kilmarnock; the Cavalier was supplied by New Crown Vauxhall in Nottingham, the Senator carries plates for Park Lane Motors of Aveley IIRC. Think that's all of mine. Need to see about a replacement front plate for the Montego, don't think the two Volvos will be particularly fussed either way.

Cheers Rich! I did look up both Waite Brothers and Evans Autos (I added a pic of the rear sticker of Evans Autos to my last post) I cant see Waite Brothers having supplied my E-reg Sterling as new, but then again, you never know. Its an old car dealership thats no longer going so I'd probably be more inclined to keep with the Waite Brothers logo.

I did actually phone up Evans Autos sometime ago and asked if they still did number plates, which they still do, but its unlikely I'll be down that way visiting them anytime soon anyway. I think I'd pick DMB Graphics to do the plates for me rather Evans themselves to be honest.

Not quite my manor, more TheOrganist's manor (Not seen him for a bit)

Funny you should mention 'Royal Ordnance' I spied upon a Mk2 Rover 827Si in a scrapyard in Wooten Wawen some years ago, I grabbed the vehicles books out of it and found out it had also been supplied to Royal Ordnance possibly as a company car. I even found the original build sheet for it.
