What you need to know:

See above.

Should I buy one?

Yes. If you're blind (it's fugly), stupid (it has to be the worse car in it's class in every respect), and love welding, this is the car for you!

Expect to pay:

Too much.

We should have a sperate section for these 'mini reviews' I think they're a good idea. Then the casual shiter could browse through the section for when he's purchasing yet another, slow, wheezing automobile nobody else wants.

My e class hasn't got any rust on the arches, sills or anywhere major. Just a little bubble near indicator on the wing. Handling is very good for the size of the car. Seats are really comfortable. Not the fastest considering its an auto and only a 2.0 and fuel economy could be better but to be expected for the size. Practicality wise I can't fault it. Enormous boot for the dog. Surprisingly cheap on parts too. A few minor hiccups like the back drivers window don't work and that's about it. The only car I had that me and the wife agreed we don't want to sell.

What you ought to do is buy a W124 instead. Especially the 2 litre auto 7 seater estate variant.

Why? Not going to be anything noticably different is it?

It will be to his bank balance.

The sills and arches are still made of metal

This is autoshite. Love for the unloved. We all don't and can't like the same thing or else it wouldn't be fun! Nothing more fun than owning a merc on a budget. Come to think of it,a lot of older cars nowadays can't be run on a shoestring. Welding, finding parts and panels and as mentioned in another thread finding a garage to work on it or paint it because of stigmas attached to certain vehicles.
