Taken a while, but heard back from Butlers today....

They think it's the torque convertor as they can't find anything else wrang wee it. New one fitted inc VAT = £830.

Bollocks.

That's a bloody great chunk of change to fix what they THINK is wrong with it :o

Agreed. But without removing said slushbox to check the convertor splines* - fair to say all anyone can do is make an educated guess. I guess...

As it stands my only cost has been getting the car up there. I think it may well be a cnut of a job and they've priced it accordingly. :(

Right! Have come up with a plan. Gonna phone Butlers themorraw and get them to confirm the identity of the slushbox in question and then I'm gonna phone these guys and ask them to quote me happy. http://www.jpat.co.uk/torque_converter_reman.html

I'll then ask Butlers to quote me for dropping said box and refitting with a reconditioned convertor. If that can be done for £500 all in? Then I'm willing to lay that out for the car as otherwise it's a good-un which is probably not worth spending that much on - but feck it - it's only money!

The next 24hrs are critical.....

I pick the Legnum up later today. Reconditioned torque convertor fitted and the Tokyo Express lives on. Hummed and hawed about the cost £££ -- but decided I was better sticking with the devil I know as the rest of the motor is typically Japanese / 100% reliable. Only took Butlers a week to sort it once I'd given the go-ahead.

Looking forward to the thrash back hame from the far away lands that are - Forfar - and the bridie lunch, natch...
