Mileage - 90k
MOT - April 2014
Tax - End Decemeber 2013

I bought this on a whim last year as I wanted a beta and I've not been disappointed, so I searched and found the Beta I really wanted, an HPE and much as I want to keep both I cannot justify 2 Lancia Beta's. I've not used this car much, but whenever I've wanted to use it it's started on the button and been reliable. The previous owner took the car around Europe last summer and the only issues were minor, the alternator lost a bolt and was loose, so not charging properly (alternator secured now) and the engine was running hot, it still is, but runs fine.

Good:
Lancia twin cam engine - pulls nicely and the they do sounds nice.
Polybushed suspension - good handling
Decent brakes - recent brake hoses all round (braided front)
Mechanically and structurally sound.
Decent sized boot - back seats removed add a bit of storage space there as well
Most of the gauges work (petrol gauge can be optimistic).
The roof is relatively water-tight.
The car starts, stops and goes quite well.
Spares are readily available and not too expensive from http://www.lanciabetaparts.co.uk/

Bad:
Engine runs hot - but does not overheat. The thermostat was replaced last year and the car has an over-sized radiator, the coolant has been recently changed as well. I suspect the high temp is due to a slightly blocked water pipe. I have not properly investigated this though.
The tyres are legal but old and could do with replacing.
Cosmetics - it's rough, the pictures are very very flattering. The paintwork looks original, which means it's 35 years old. To make good this would need stripping back to bare metal and starting again. A blow over would not be any good.
The worst of the body is the drivers door, repair panels are available from the above link.
Interior needs a few bits of trim and window seals, a new carpet wouldn't go amiss.
The current seats are not a great fit. They are a bit high and make it difficult for anyone large to drive. I'm 5'10" and have no issues.
Convertible hood at the back could do with replacing/repairing.
Exhaust back box doesn't fit properly. It's close and doesn't blow or rattle excessively.
Some of the bulbs in the dashboard need replacing - the dash is a bit dark at night.
Windscreen wipers aren't great.
Home-made induction kit by the previous owner is not the best, but it does the job.

I'd say it's best to consider the car a rolling project, use it as it is and do bits and pieces as/when you can or want to.

After driving this for the last couple of days I can honestly say I prefer driving this to my HPE, this has much better handling and brakes.

Shiters discount may be available for a quick and hassle free sale ;)
