Peugeot remote locking question

Whilst I'm still snagging on the 106, I'd like to get the remote central locking back up and running. Problem is, it's had a load of different locks and keys, and nothing matches.

My thought is, to get one key which matches the ignition, fuel cap and remote, which will then cover everything. What I would like to know is, does the sensor in the roof (near the mirror) match the key? I was thinking that I could get a key and sensor from a breaker, put them into my car and have RCL again. Will this work, or am I being over simplisitc?

Answers on a postcard, please.

If it has the sensor in the roof, it's infra-red. Great idea, till it's frosty or you're stood more than three inches from the car.

Either way, there should be a process to "learn" a new key since it should be a rolling code, so actually they don't need to match to start with. THE INTERNETS suggest unlocking on the key and within 30 seconds just press the button twice on the keyfob and this will sync it all up.

Your method should work, the IR ones had all the code gubbins in the receiver itself rather than the ECU, but it relies on the batteries not having gone flat in the key - otherwise you'll have to do that resync method anyway.

Ah, good point. Hadn't thought of that. It's not an IR key, but the key isn't original, so it may be IR on the car. Think I'll put some fresh batteries in the key and give it a go.

It's dead easy to fit proper remote central locking to these (£9 kit off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Universal-Car-Remote-Control-Central-Door-Lock-Locking-Keyless-Entry-System-/270992108347?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item3f18636b3b) and you don't have to punch the fucking key fob through the windscreen.

four wires, ground, positive, lock, unlock. take the glovebox out and the module is behind there, size of a pack of fags and has all the connections you need, just scotchlok on and away you go.

Yeah I had one of those generic ones on the Golf. (coincidentally the Golf I bought from one participant of this thread, and sold to the other)

Was dead easy to fit and worked well, it was a bit old-school having a separate fob for the buttons but for a few quid, who's worried?

Probably still have it somewhere sans fitting instructions, I took it out before the car went. I'm pikey like that.
