"Work in progress"

I've been working* on my Maserati for about three and a half years now, i.e. I've occasionally had bursts of enthusiasm where I've done work on it before covering it up for another number of months.

I managed the engine rebuild in the first year and a half. Not bad, considering I was commuting 108 miles a day, doing up a house and working on the car on my driveway without access to special tools.

Weirdly enough, though, the bodywork & structural resto is taking longer now that I'm working from home, have got the house half-way liveable and have the use of a fully-kitted unit to work in...

So what about you lot?

I'd be really interested to see some pics of the resto, John. I'm a big fan of the older Mazzers and have been fortunate enough to have a drive or been driven in a fair few of them, including a Khamsin, a Kyalami and a Merak. Fair play for taking on a Bi-Turbo retoration yourself. I got within a whisker of buying a MkIV Quattroporte once as well, but thought better of it, which in hindsight, was probably a sensible decision. One of the best test drives I have ever had though.

I started a WIP thread on it ages ago, it hasn't been updated for a while because other stuff has got in the way and/or I haven't found time to upload photos, etc.

I've nearly finished the work on the driver's side now, and the driver's door is back in place... I still have to remove the passenger side sill & weld in the replacement, and I still need to address the rot on the leading edge of the front wings, hopefully I'll find time for that later this year.

Anyway, the WIP thread is here: http://autoshite.commlm/topic/8921-maserati-222-se-wip/?hl=maserati

That's a great WIP thread - it takes some bottle to undertake an overhaul on these things, but I am sure the effort and expense will pay you back tenfold, when it is back on the road. These Bi-turbos really are quite something.

I feel your pain... serious structural rebuilds are pretty depressing things until close to completion!

That was a brilliant thread, John, and I look forward to reading more.
