Toyota Hilux Surf... export fodder?

Got a text from a mate who has one of the above, in diesel auto flavour. Its slightly dog eared with typical rotten bumpers. Apparently the thing is borked and he wants to sell it. No idea what the problem with it is or how much he wants for it.

I don't really want it but can any money be made from these things? Would there be a new owner in Africa waiting?

Tell him to weld a makeshift M2 .50 cal turret onto the bed, and drive to the Syrian border.

If it's a 2.4, it's probably done the head gasket and/or cracked the head.

I did think about head issues. Par for the course i've heard!

It's not a hilux truck, it's a hilux surf, so it's you can't bolt a rocket launcher to the bed and it's not the same as the one on TG. I could still blow it up I suppose.

I'm surprised theres one still running. there was something of a fad for these things in the late '90s and they all seem to have eaten their own cylinder heads.  the hilux legendary reliability is not founded on the surf model, a shame really as they are quite a decent drive- superior to my mind than a Pajero anyway.

I don't think theres any profit in it.

not a bean really. If it runs and stuff stick it on the bay. There appears to be noobs with grand ideas when it comes tho these things. The older rusty ones are better, preferably in Red or Blue.

Fair enough! I was hoping it would fetch 1k as export or something daft but they sound pretty undesirable. I may just offer £100 and run it straight over the bridge, or not bother altogether..

This one is grey, so even less desirable than a red or blue one.

The 3.0 is supposed to be more reliable, but a colleague's one blew its head gasket recently. Not really a shock though, it's nearly 20 years old and does a lot of towing.

Like I said, some kids have big ideas about these. Depending on the problem bung it on the bay and see.

Don't worry, they won't have a clue what it is!
