If someone came up to me and said my cars weren't classic cars I'd just give the reply "I never claimed that they were"!

This business of 'X is a classic and Y is not' is a big waste of time, you'll never get to the bottom of it and just wind up loads of beardies in the process.

Was trying to think of the best way of putting this and you've done it for me. Nice one!Personally, I just find cars in general interesting, but a lot more so if it's something I'm not massively familiar with and/or haven't seen for a while.Put it this way, I went to the classic car show they hold in Wakefield - they had all the usual suspects, British beef, huge American barges, sporting Italian stuff, you name it - but the car I spent by far the most time admiring was a Morris Ital. I've seen most of the rest before in some detail, whereas I'd be lucky to see 2-3 Itals in a year. I bet at some shows there would be some debate to whether it could even enter, whereas I'm sure they'd let all the samey MGBs and Minis in with no fuss.As a result, I tend to think of the word classic in a negative way, thinking of all the duffers at local shows lined up in their well-established "classics". If that's their bag, leave em to it, but if there was a classic car show where only stuff like that could be displayed, I'd probably spend more time looking round the car park than the display area.

My highlight of the weekend weas an 'ordinary' Renault 12. So 'ordinary' that it looked like it was 6 months old & just run in -but not time warp.Absolutely splendid.Guess most shows disappoint me a little -I tend to turn up in rarer vehicles in everyday unpampered use. its rare to see something special that I'd like to own these daysAs to what makes a Classic? Frankly -I don't give a damn.

I wouldn't class any of the stuff I own as 'classic' with the possible exception of the Jensen - which is more 'expensive shite' than classic. The Rangie possibly scrapes at the door with being Janspeed / Wood and Pickett converted and rather weird whilst based on the Daddy of all Chelsea Tractors.Other than that, I couldn't give a toss other than to upset the beards and weirdos who claim that utter tat is in fact classic.I love classic car shows, but being in Liverpool there aren't many around here. The local view appears to be that faffing about with old cars isn't as much fun as going to gigs / the match / the pub.I'm sure Liverpool has the lowest number of classic car clubs per capita in the UK, even though I do see quite a few interesting old shitters knocking about. Millions of old Land Rovers and Landy clubs, but they all seem to be run by people with a yearning for authority who want ultimate control over everything. Wankers the lot of 'em.
