Wheel trim makes bid for freedom in M25 contraflow

I lost my third wheel trim in as many weeks on Saturday, this time from the DS Safari, the other two went missing from the DS saloon. This time however I did see it go as it happily bounded along next to the car before skipping over the armco into the undergrowth. This happened whilst driving along what should have been the hard shoulder of the M25 but was being used as a traffic lane because of major roadworks. The road surface was similar to the sort of thing they use on suspension development test tracks.

A bit like this one at MIRA noise-surfaces-310.jpg

Of course it was impossible to stop but as these wheel trims are about £75 each to replace who would I contact to see if they can let me have the buggers back when they next have a tidy up or... if they can't be arsed... can I make a claim off?

I had four spares, taken off a car that was scrapped about thirty years ago, now I only have one.

Unfortunately not an option

DS wheel trims come in two flavours, the posh Pallas ones have pointy middles but the pov spec models like my Safari were fitted with these dished ones. Still in high grade stainless steel mind you. These are apparently quite rare because everyone who had a DS in the 1980s "upgraded" their cars with the wheel trims off a scrap Pallas and lobbed the old ones. I had the foresight to keep a set in the back of the garage.

They also fit 2CVs

Oh, and as I now have a DS saloon with mismatched wheel trims, I should be a contender for Autoshiter of the year. :D

You may as well go the whole distance, switch to plastic, and use 2 Ford trims, 1 Vauxhall, and 1 halfords special. In fact, I'd probably buy a calendar just for a picture of such a setup.

I lost one side of straps on a twin axle trailer on sat morning over those roadworks. Absolute farce - no way are they fit to drive over. Not surprised you lost a wheel trim.

could you look on google earth and see if there is another road/track nearby that you could walk from?

If you do ask them to have a look for it (but I have a feeling they will ask you to bugger off), don’t tell them how much it’s worth or you may never get it back, even if they do find it

I’m not saying all the road workers are pikeys, but some are...
