cobblers Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I'm currently commuting to work in this: Which is all well and good cos it's not bad to drive, but it takes a while to warm up due to having about 10000000 gallon coolant capacity and ends up getting about 29mpg, so I pump £180 a month into fuel which breaks my heart. My pal is offering me this silky bitch for £500 on a BUY NOW PAY WHENEVR basis: which will run on vego and is quite a nice car despite being fair leggy - about 200k. it's now also got cheap ebay JOM coilovers and some less crap wheels, both of these are pluses to me because I like driving impractically low hatchback cars for some reason even though I should have grown out of it about 5 years ago. It's tested for about 9 months and pissed the last one, I done the cambelt for him not long since and the only real problem is a noisy reverse gear. I could run the golf on about £50 a month in veg oil from costco, but unless I could get someone to mirror my 8 years NCB I'll have to pay about £90 a month to insure it. All said and done I'd probably break even on the monthlies, but have two motors available (and since I don't need it to get to work I might actually get somewhere with doing the bodywork on the van over summer) There's little point taking the T25 off the road cos it only costs £300 a year to insure which I've already paid anyway. What's the likelyhood of getting somewhere to mirror my NCB or at least be a bit more friendly with insuring the golf? I'm sort of thinking aloud but it would be good for someone who's been there and done this kind of thing to tell me it's a stupid idea or point out something I've missed (I have ignored tax because both cars have 6 months on them)
vulgalour Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Almost totally unrelated but: must get a Costco account, it would be useful. Mmmm chips.
Micrashed Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Could you add the car as a second one to your existing insurer? Would they mirror your NCD, after all you are only able to drive one at a time?
cobblers Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 You'd think so really, they could even add a clause to my policy that forbids me from driving both cars simultaneously and I would do my best to stick to it!With that in mind I rang aidy flux earlier and they were all like "oh you'll have to ring back in business hours, that's another department but I don't think we could do that" hence this thread.
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Get a cheapo classic policy (£120 or so) for the T25, moving your NCD across to the Golf. Job jobbed.
cobblers Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Aye that's what I'll end up doing Luxo - I phoned flux today and they will cover the golf for £440 with my NCB. They wanted £200 for the van on a classic policy though so I'll ring round elsewhere. In the meantime I'm just gonna borrow the golf to get to work for a while and drive it on my Driving Other Vehicles cover then probably actually buy in next month sometime, after which I'll take the van off the road for a month or so and do a few weekends of welding on it that I've been meaning to do for a while. The golf is very much slower than the van.
