there was some sweet stuff there - but the prices were eyewatering!

six cars between them brought over a million bucks.

Bruce is supposedly starting to collect VWs now so expect some even more ludicrous prices for the early and the unusual. He did keep eight of the micros from the collection so I expect he will be starting to collect them again (for the third time).

My '80 KV Mini 1 is from this collection. Bruce Weiner sold off most of his newer (post-mid-'60s) stuff from the museum a few years ago. The prices were comparatively modest at that time.

Comparatively, but back in 1997 they were almost just as mental. That was the last time there was a huge spike in prices for microcars, (and I don't think anyone was expecting it, which made even more shocking) and they've been building steadily since then. Hopefully the new round of insanity will be as high as they ever get and things will start to bottom out again soon. Chance are I'll never be able to afford even something as mundane and 'common' as a Trojan, which is a bloody shame. Will be nice if some of this stuff makes it back to Europe though.

Yeah, I'd heard that of his previous big auction. I was referring to his gradual sale of newer microcars about a decade ago that took place over the span of a few years, mostly via a combination of eBay, the museum's own website, and a local auction house. My KV was sold to someone locally who later stuck it on eBay. The big money hasn't yet found its way into this end of things, so there's still hope I may one day get my very own Voiture Electronique Porquerolles.

I did, however, buy a hard copy of the current auction catalogue a couple of months ago. It's a good read.

37 of the cars were bought by the one buyer and another bought twelve. A museum called the lane museum bought a few too. They have a lot of unusual micros too.

And Barrett, Trojans are superb microcars but they're now in the expensive elite of microcars. Much better than isettas too.
