Question for any 944 owners on here.

Any idea why my battery would go flat in a couple of weeks of non use? I have tried all the usual tests with a multimeter etc. Am getting a 100 milliamp drain when everything is switched off. Have removed fuses to try and isolate the circuit. The culprit appears to be the fuse/circuit for the indicators. Any ideas? New 70AH battery so not a weak battery. :?

I'm not a 944 owner, but it looks like you're on the right track for fixing this, better than most people who would just keep taking the battery back claiming it's faulty.

Pull the flasher relay - does the draw go away?

Seems as though it's keeping the relay coil energised all the time. How many pins does the relay have? they are fairly interchangeable so you could probably swap one in out of something similar aged VAG to rule things out.

Doe the indicators and hazards work properly?

Indicators and hazards all work fine. Have also tried removing the relay but the current draw is the same. Odd.

Suspected that the radio/cd unit had maybe been wired into the circuit but have disconnected that too.

Not a massive problem as the car is generally used daily. Just an occasional nuisance/worry!

Is there an alarm fitted??

Yes, but it is ancient and seemingly de activated. Although the immobiliser still works. An old Cobra system.

Edit..... Maybe you could be on to something there! Hmmmm. Old alarm system, only partly working....

I'd check to see just how disconnected it actually is, I've had a few cars drain their battery thanks to supposedly dead alarm systems

Am a tad nervous about buggering about with the 'dead' alarm, due to the fact that the immobiliser part still works. Also I told the insurance company that it had an immobiliser but no alarm...

Are these things separate or should I just bury my head in the sand and keep the battery charged?

I had this with my old 944, except it would drain the battery in a matter of hours! Sadly I just found disconnecting the battery was the only way to fix it. It had eleventy-billion redundant alarms fitted which didn't help.
