Wilko, this has plenty to do with class, income, and yes, also poverty. Think how many "bluebloods" regularly crank up their Ford Cargos and pop round housing estates, offering derisory amounts of cash for old vehicles.... any spring to mind? You're more likely to find them golfing, or at the Yacht Club. Perhaps rubbing shoulders at the Guards Polo Club.

RBJ, Do you own a car over three years old? I bet you do, therefore you need people like me.

And not the Grauniad, no, I prefer the Telegraph, for it's unbiased crossword.

one reason to weigh it in (rather than sell it for restoration or spares) is if it was nicked, or it's 'ownership was in question'

True - but that doesn't mean that everyone who is working class is automatically a flatbed-owning pikey. It's a career choice, just like going and working in Morrisons or something - a person isn't born to do it.

Exactly, but a person like that is more likely to be able to participate in "grass roots" motorsport than be able to sponsor a F1 team.... Hence the popularity amongst lower wage earners.... I used to take part in wrecking Audi Coupes..... yes, the slinky 1970s ones.....!
